Compress PNG Online (Free, No Upload)
PNG is favorite for logos, icons and screenshots because it is lossless and supports transparency — but that exact property makes PNG files heavy. This tool trims PNG size in your browser while keeping the alpha channel intact, so transparent regions stay transparent.

Open Compress PNG OnlineWhy PNGs are bigger than JPGs
PNG stores every pixel losslessly and records transparency. A detailed PNG can be 3-5MB where the same scene as JPG is 300KB. For web performance, PNG is worth it for graphics — but only after compression.
How to compress a PNG without losing transparency
- Open the Compress Image tool.
- Drop your PNG — its transparency is preserved automatically.
- Adjust output quality/size until the preview fits your target.
- Download.
For extreme reduction while keeping transparency, export as WebP instead — our converter produces transparent WebP that is often a third of the PNG size.
What compressing a PNG actually changes
Reducing PNG size optimizes the encoding and, depending on the tool, quantizes the color data. Details such as soft gradients and noise are the first to compress; hard edges, logos and text stay crisp.
PNG compression: lossless by design
PNG compression is lossless: the file shrinks, the pixels do not change. Savings come from entropy coding of what is already there, which means the reduction depends entirely on content - flat-color graphics and screenshots often drop 30-60%, while photographic PNGs (which are already near-random data) may shrink only a few percent. A stubborn photographic PNG is telling you to change format, not to slide a quality bar - PNG has no quality bar.
When a PNG is larger than expected, the usual culprits are extra channels and dimensions: an 8-bit indexed palette instead of 24-bit truecolor cuts size dramatically on images with limited colors (screenshots, icons, logos), and removing unused metadata helps slightly. For photos that must stay PNG (a pipeline requirement), the honest answer is that WebP lossless or JPG will always be smaller - this tool optimizes what PNG can optimize, and the readout tells you when the format itself is the ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will compression remove my transparency?
No. The alpha channel is preserved, so transparent regions remain transparent in the output.
What is the smallest a PNG logo can be?
A simple logo with flat colors often compresses to 10-50KB. Complex gradients push it higher — switch to WebP if you need it under 30KB.
Is PNG only for graphics?
Photos usually compress far better as JPG or WebP. Use PNG for logos, UI, screenshots and images that need transparency.
