Favicon Generator Online (Free)
A favicon is the tiny icon next to your site's title in browser tabs — and getting it right matters more for credibility than most people think. Our Favicon Generator turns any image (or emoji) into a full set of correctly sized PNG icons, entirely in your browser.

Open Favicon Generator OnlineWhy you need more than one favicon size
- - 16×16: browser tabs and bookmarks.
- - 32×32: Windows taskbar and hi-DPI tabs.
- - 180×180: iOS home screen (apple-touch-icon).
- - 192×192 and 512×512: Android / PWA manifest icons.
Browsers and phones silently fetch the size they need. Provide the set and the right icon is always shown — no blurry upscaling.
How to generate a favicon
- Open the Favicon Generator tool.
- Upload an image or pick an emoji.
- Choose padding and background (transparent or colored).
- Download the individual sizes or the whole pack.
Square sources work best — a logo on a transparent PNG stays perfectly centered. If your logo has built-in margins, add a little padding in the tool to compose a compact mark.
Installing the icons
Drop favicon-16x16.png and favicon-32x32.png into your site root, add a <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico"> tag, and reference the 192/512 PNGs in your PWA manifest. Next.js apps can simply place the files in /app or /public and reference them in metadata.
What makes a favicon readable at 16 pixels
At 16x16 pixels - the size that actually appears in the browser tab - there is room for roughly two shapes and a letter. Logos designed for a 500px header collapse into gray mush at that scale: thin strokes disappear, small text becomes noise, and gradients turn into flat smudges. The favicon version of a brand mark is therefore a redrawn simplification, not a scaled-down copy.
Design checks before generating: does the silhouette alone identify the mark (silhouettes survive scaling, internal detail does not), does it sit on a transparent background (dark browser themes composite the tab against dark colors), and does it read in both light and dark tab strips. Test by actually looking at the 16px result at 100% zoom, not by judging the large preview - the generator renders every required size from one source, but only your eye can confirm the small ones hold. Export the full set (SVG plus 32 and 180 PNG) so every platform gets a native-size asset.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the generator export .ico files?
It exports PNG sizes, which every modern browser accepts via <link rel="icon">. For legacy .ico support, PNG icons are still the recommended modern approach.
Can I use an emoji as a favicon?
Yes — the tool renders emoji into a crisp PNG at any size, which is a quick way to brand a personal or hobby site.
Are my icons uploaded to a server?
No. Everything renders locally in your browser, so private brand assets never leave your machine.
