Why merge images together?

  1. - Compare two versions of the same photo (before/after)
  2. - Build product collages for marketplaces or portfolios
  3. - Stack screenshots into a single shareable image
  4. - Create side-by-side size or color comparisons

Merging keeps everything in one file — one email attachment, one upload, one share.

How to merge in seconds

  1. Open the [Merge Images tool](/tools/merge-images).
  2. Drop two or more images.
  3. Reorder them with the arrow buttons if needed.
  4. Choose side by side or stacked.
  5. Set the gap and background, then download.

Everything runs locally — your images are never uploaded.

Horizontal or vertical?

Side by side (horizontal) is best for comparisons and panoramas. Stacked (vertical) suits before/after shots and reading documents. With a transparent background you can drop the result onto any design later.

Horizontal, vertical or grid: choosing the layout

The merge layout should follow how the images relate to each other. Side-by-side horizontal merging suits before/after pairs and comparisons where the eye moves left to right. Vertical stacking suits sequences: receipts, chat logs, tutorial steps. A grid is right for sets of similar items - product angles, sticker sheets, mood boards - where order matters less than overview.

Quality depends on three decisions made before merging: match the source widths (we scale or pad narrower images so edges align instead of producing a ragged strip), keep the originals' resolution rather than merging downscaled previews, and pick the output format once - JPG for photographs keeps files small, PNG for screenshots and graphics keeps text crisp. Exporting at original size means the merged file can still be zoomed into, which is exactly what people do with comparison images.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is merging images free?

Yes — completely free, unlimited images per merge, no account required.

Does merging reduce quality?

No. Images are placed pixel-for-pixel on the output canvas. Export as PNG to keep it lossless, or JPG for smaller files.

Can I merge images of different sizes?

Yes — each image is aligned to the shared edge; in horizontal mode all images share the tallest height, in vertical mode the widest width.
