Open Crop Image OnlineWhy crop your images?
- - Remove unwanted edges and distracting background
- - Create the exact aspect ratio a platform needs
- - Reframe the subject to a stronger composition
- - Standardize product or profile photos
Cropping is non-destructive when done right — you only lose the pixels you deliberately remove.
How to crop in your browser
- Open the [Crop Image tool](/tools/crop-image).
- Drop your image.
- Pick a ratio preset (1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, 3:2) or leave it free.
- Drag the crop box to frame your subject.
- Download as PNG, JPG or WebP.
The live size readout shows exactly which pixels you're keeping.
Ratios that matter in 2026
- - 1:1 — profile photos, Instagram square, avatars
- - 4:5 — Instagram portrait posts (best-performing ratio)
- - 16:9 — YouTube thumbnails and widescreen content
- - 9:16 — Instagram Reels, TikTok, Stories
- - 3:2 — classic photography, print
- - 2:3 — Pinterest pins
Free-form cropping without losing the subject
With no fixed ratio to obey, the crop decision becomes compositional rather than technical. The three questions that consistently produce better results: what is the actual subject (crop to it, not to the frame), is there breathing room around it (a crop flush against a face or product looks cramped at every size), and what will the surrounding layout do with the result (a wide strip suits a banner, a near-square suits a card).
Technical hygiene while cropping: keep the crop rectangle at or above the final display size - cropping a small image and upscaling later undoes the benefit. The rule of thirds helps when the subject has no obvious center: place the focal point at a third-line intersection instead of dead center for a more balanced frame. Export once at the destination size. The tool crops losslessly when you do not resize, so pixels inside the rectangle stay byte-identical to the source.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is cropping free and unlimited?
Yes — free, unlimited, no account, no watermark on the result.
Does cropping reduce quality?
Cropping removes pixels but keeps the remaining ones at full quality. Export as PNG for lossless output, or JPG/WebP for smaller files.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes — the crop box locks to your chosen ratio and the readout shows exact pixel dimensions. Export the result and resize with [Resize Image](/tools/resize-image) for precise pixel-perfect output.
